Parker mother seeks Mainstreet safety changes to honor late son

Amy Hudnall is asking Parker to turn the loss of her son, Brendan Davis-Hulse, into safer conditions along Mainstreet, where he was fatally struck on Aug. 12, 2023. Her effort centers on a proposal she calls “Brendan’s Law,” aimed at enhanced pedestrian safety and driver accountability.

The campaign gives a name to a grief that is still visible in Parker, a Douglas County community where Mainstreet serves as one of the town’s most important traffic corridors. Hudnall’s push is not just about remembrance. It is about changing the street environment and enforcement expectations so another family does not face the same kind of loss.

Mainstreet already sits at the center of Parker’s transportation discussion. The town has completed its Mainstreet Concrete Replacement Project, which included multi-modal safety and accessibility improvements, and Douglas County has published long-range transportation plans, including a 2030 Transportation Plan and a 2050 Transportation Plan draft for public comment. Those planning efforts show that the corridor is not a static backdrop, but a place where design choices and policy decisions can still be made.

The stakes are easy to see in recent Parker traffic history. E. Mainstreet has been the site of a fatal crash, and another Parker crash tied to a DUI case left three people injured, including a child. Those incidents underscore why Hudnall’s call for stronger pedestrian protections and clearer accountability is resonating in a town where daily driving, walking, and crossing paths intersect in a few busy blocks.

Parker has also shown a willingness to use public-space changes to respond to community pain. Colorado renamed part of C-470 to honor Kendrick Castillo, offering one example of how a loss can be translated into a lasting civic gesture. Hudnall’s effort fits that pattern, but with a practical aim: memorialize Brendan Davis-Hulse while pressing for safer streets and a stronger response when drivers put pedestrians at risk.
