Pedestrian killed in early-morning Arapahoe Road crash near Parker
A 31-year-old man died after being hit while crossing East Arapahoe Road near South Lewiston Way, closing a key eastbound commute route for hours.

A pedestrian was killed after a driver struck him while he was crossing East Arapahoe Road near South Lewiston Way in Foxfield, shutting down eastbound traffic on one of the area’s busiest corridors and forcing commuters to detour for hours. Deputies were called to the crash around 2 a.m., and eastbound Arapahoe Road stayed closed from South Parker Road to South Lewiston Way during the investigation.
The victim was a 31-year-old man whom investigators believed was homeless. Deputies said he was walking across East Arapahoe Road when he was hit. Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene, but he died there. The crash happened in Arapahoe County, just east of Parker, in a stretch of road that carries steady traffic between suburban neighborhoods, businesses and major arterials.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. As of Friday morning, the driver was not facing criminal charges, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. Traffic was fully cleared by late morning, with a traffic reporter saying all lanes had reopened by 11 a.m. after the overnight shutdown.
The death is the latest reminder of how dangerous pedestrian travel can be along Arapahoe Road, where cars move quickly and crossings can be unforgiving after dark. A separate recent crash near Lima Street on the same corridor left a man hospitalized after he was struck outside a crosswalk, underscoring how vulnerable pedestrians remain along the route.
For Douglas County and south metro commuters, the immediate impact was the lane closure and the longer-term concern is whether this stretch of Arapahoe Road has enough lighting, speed control and safe crossing access to prevent another deadly encounter. The roadway reopened, but the questions raised by the 2 a.m. crash remain.
