Walk into the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center at 100 3rd Avenue in downtown Jasper any day of the week and you can browse original work by Dubois County artists for free. Buy something, and the money goes directly to the person who made it.

The Dubois County Art Guild's 2026 exhibit opened April 2 and runs through May 24, filling the Jasper Arts galleries with paintings, photography, prints, and mixed media created by Guild members from across the county. Admission is free, and works are priced across a wide range to accommodate buyers at every budget.

Sharing the galleries through June 26 is Keedysville artist Rhonda J. Smith's solo show "Persistence," a collection of large, hand-cut original linoleum prints depicting farms and landscapes of the Antietam National Battlefield Park region. Each print is a one-of-a-kind piece, also available for sale. Together, the two exhibits give a spring afternoon at the cultural center real depth across media and scale.

Getting there is straightforward: parking is available at the Thyen-Clark itself, and the Fairfield Inn and Suites sits directly across the street for visitors coming in from outside Jasper. The downtown dining and retail corridor is within walking distance from the front doors.

The next First Thursday reception falls on May 1, running 5 to 7 p.m. at the cultural center, free and open to the public. First Thursdays give visitors a chance to meet the exhibiting artists face-to-face, hear a gallery talk, and ask about technique and materials directly. On the same evening, the Downtown Chowdown brings food trucks to the Jasper Riverwalk parking lot at the end of 4th Street, with live music at the Dave Buehler Plaza, making it a natural two-stop evening in the city center.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday noon to 3 p.m. The spring run through May 24 allows school groups and organizations to schedule visits before summer, and the Thyen-Clark coordinates group tours during that window.

The Guild's showing at the cultural center is part of a year-round rotation organized by Jasper Community Arts. Guild President LaVonne Tisdal has represented the organization at past First Thursday gallery talks at the center, where the event format pairs artist conversation with open gallery access. Guild membership is open to any adult interested in art, including residents of counties neighboring Dubois.
