High Winds Flip Semi-Truck Near Jasper, Sending It Across Roadway
Dramatic video captured a semi-truck blown across I-65 near Jasper by 50-60 mph gusts on March 13, narrowly missing other vehicles as it flipped.

Wind gusts hitting 50 to 60 mph flipped a semi-truck across I-65 near Jasper on March 13, sending it skidding across the roadway while other vehicles narrowly avoided being struck. Dramatic video captured the near-miss, underscoring how quickly the afternoon's conditions turned dangerous on the northwest Indiana interstate.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Glen Fifield said two separate semi-truck rollovers occurred on I-65 Friday afternoon. Southbound lanes near mile marker 222 were closed entirely, with drivers forced to divert at or before State Road 10. A second semi rolled into a ditch on the northbound side near mile marker 238, slowing traffic but keeping it moving. Whether the Jasper flip corresponds to the southbound closure at mile marker 222 has not been explicitly confirmed by police.
It is unclear whether anyone was injured in either incident. Indiana State Police urged drivers to avoid I-65 altogether due to dangerous wind conditions still affecting the corridor.

The rollovers were part of a broader severe wind event that stretched into the Chicago metro area. A high wind warning remained in effect for the Chicago area until 4 p.m., with gusts forecast to reach up to 60 mph. A special education high school in Chicago's northwest suburbs canceled classes after strong winds tore part of the building's roof off. Ground stops were briefly issued at O'Hare International Airport during the morning hours, and several trees were knocked down overnight.
The situation remained fluid as of Friday afternoon, with lane closure status and reopening times still to be confirmed by Indiana State Police and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
