The City of Huntingburg launched a community-wide crowdfunding campaign to bring an outdoor Fitness Court to Charles C. Niehaus Memorial Park, expanding access to health and wellness opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities. Four days remain to make it happen.

Working in partnership with the National Fitness Campaign and Patronicity along with the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority through the CreatINg Places initiative, the city is seeking to raise $22,500 by March 31, 2026. If the goal is met, every donated dollar will be matched, doubling the community's impact. The campaign is branded "Every Dollar Doubled," meaning a fully funded drive would effectively unlock $45,000 in total value for the project.

The Fitness Court is an innovative outdoor gym designed to support adults of all fitness levels through bodyweight-based workouts. Beyond exercise equipment, it serves as a welcoming community space for individual use, group classes, and free wellness programming, including guided workouts available via a free mobile app. The facility will be fully ADA-compliant, ensuring accessibility for all users.

The 43-acre Charles C. Niehaus Memorial Park sits at 403 West 6th Street and already draws Huntingburg residents to its golf driving range, 18-hole disc golf course, and 1.1-mile walking trail. The Fitness Court would add a new outdoor workout destination to that mix.

City leaders said the project represents a collaborative effort to promote healthier lifestyles while creating a new community asset for residents of all ages.

Donations can be made online through Patronicity.com/healthyhuntingburg. Those who prefer to give offline may donate by cash or check payable to City of Huntingburg with the memo "Huntingburg Fitness Court." Donations may be mailed to PO Box 10, Huntingburg, IN 47542 or dropped off at 508 E 4th Street, Huntingburg, IN 47542. All donations must be received by March 31, 2026, to be eligible for matching funds.

Kenlee Steffe, the city's Community Development & Engagement Director, is the point of contact for questions about the project, donation options, or scheduling a meeting. She can be reached at ksteffe@huntingburg-in.gov or (812) 683-2211, ext. 1049.

The March 31 deadline leaves no room for late checks or delayed online transactions. Contributions that arrive after that date will not qualify for the matching funds tied to the IHCDA's CreatINg Places program.
