Huntingburg police asked for immediate help finding 13-year-old Miguel Flores, who was last seen around 10:30 p.m. May 14 near East 12th Street and North Jackson Street. Flores is about 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighs about 100 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes, and was wearing a red shirt with gray-and-black pants. The Huntingburg Police Department, led by Chief Brad Kramer, said anyone with information should call (812) 683-4111.

Officers said Flores’s direction of travel is unknown and warned that the juvenile may be in danger. That made the alert more urgent than a routine missing-person notice, because a child or teenager can move quickly, change locations and be seen by someone who does not realize he is missing. The first hours after a disappearance often matter most, especially when the last known location is a specific block in Huntingburg.

The case also fit into Indiana’s broader missing-person response system. The Indiana State Police and the Indiana Clearinghouse for Information on Missing Children and Missing Endangered Adults collect and share reports on missing children, missing veterans at risk and missing endangered adults. Indiana’s AMBER Alert plan can activate law enforcement notifications, public broadcast alerts, notification to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Wireless Emergency Alerts, INDOT message boards and Hoosier Lottery messaging when the criteria are met.

Those criteria require that the child be under 18, believed abducted, in danger of serious bodily harm or death, and described well enough for a broadcast to help. That framework explains why police often issue a local public plea quickly, even when a full AMBER Alert is not activated. In this case, a precise description and a last-known location near East 12th Street and North Jackson Street gave neighbors and drivers a specific area to watch.

Police later said Flores had been found and was back home. The fast resolution underscored how quickly a tip from one witness in Huntingburg can turn a high-risk missing-child alert into a reunion.
