Jasper Park and Rec Seeks Volunteers to Staff Three Historic Sites
Jasper Park & Rec wants docents for a 1918 one-room schoolhouse, a historic barn, and a working mill — with a callout meeting set for March 30.
Three historic sites tucked into Old Jasper near the Riverwalk need people to bring them to life, and the Jasper Park & Recreation Department is looking for volunteers willing to do exactly that.
The department is recruiting hosts, docents and program guides for the 1918 Alexander One-Room Schoolhouse, the Schaeffer Barn and the Jasper City Mill. The commitment is flexible and occasional: volunteers lead brief educational programs, share historical information, provide demonstrations and hands-on learning activities, and host open hours for guests to explore the facilities.
The scheduling reflects the sites' two distinct audiences. On weekdays, volunteers work alongside elementary school field trips and motorcoach groups passing through. On Saturdays, they staff the sites during Farmer's Markets, when foot traffic through Old Jasper picks up.

Anyone interested in learning more should attend the Volunteer Callout Meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30 at the Alexander Schoolhouse itself. Parking is available in the Jasper Public Library lot. "If meaningful volunteer opportunities with flexible, occasional time commitments interest you, please plan to attend the Volunteer Callout Meeting, which is set for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Alexander Schoolhouse," the department said in its announcement.
