Jasper, Tri-County YMCA to Break Ground on Regional Wellness Center
A 70,000-square-foot wellness center breaks ground April 17 at 900 W. 15th St., owned by Jasper, operated by the Tri-County YMCA, designed to serve an eight-county region.

Jasper's newest civic investment takes physical shape on April 17, when the City of Jasper and the Tri-County YMCA host a groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m. for the Regional Wellness Center at 900 W. 15th Street.
The roughly 70,000-square-foot facility will be owned by the City and operated by the Tri-County YMCA under a model in which institutional partners lease dedicated space through long-term agreements. Collaborators named in project planning documents include Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center and the Indiana National Guard, both of which have secured space in the building. Memorial Hospital, a Jasper-based regional hospital that operates medical clinics across seven surrounding counties, is among the anchor partners expected to occupy the facility.
Plans call for a fitness area, multiple gymnasiums, an indoor walking track, group exercise studios, community gathering spaces, and a community kitchen. The center is designed to serve residents across Dubois County and an eight-county region, with officials describing it as a project expected to reach thousands of residents and daily commuters.
The site at 15th Street was selected for its central position within the community. The parcel sits adjacent to the Jasper Parklands, a new outdoor swimming pool, and Jaycee Park, and is a short distance from Jasper High School. The groundbreaking itself follows previous public announcements and virtual tours that gave residents an early look at the project.
City officials and YMCA leadership will deliver remarks during the ceremony. Community members, regional partners, elected officials, and supporters are all invited to attend; parking is available at the Jasper Parklands or along 15th Street.
Officials have framed the project as reaching well beyond recreational programming. In language issued alongside the announcement, the center is described as "part of a broader strategy aimed at improving quality of life for residents of all ages, supporting workforce attraction and retention, expanding access to childcare and youth programming, promoting physical and mental health, and strengthening regional connectivity and economic growth." The project aims to position Jasper as "a regional leader in quality-of-life infrastructure."
Key details not yet publicly confirmed include the total project cost, funding sources, construction timeline, anticipated opening date, and the specific terms of partner lease agreements.
