Water service was restored at College Avenue and Meridian Road after a Jasper water main break had threatened shutoffs and low pressure for customers near Bohnert Park, Miller Lane and Third Avenue.

The Jasper Municipal Water Department posted the notice at 3:04 p.m. April 15, saying repairs were underway and could take several hours depending on the severity of the break. The affected area included Meridian Road just south of Bohnert Park to Third Avenue, along with customers on Miller Lane, the VUJC Tech Building, Sunset Citgo and Ziggi’s Coffee.

After repairs were completed, the city said anyone still seeing discoloration should run the cold water tap for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water clears. Officials also said no boil water advisory was in effect and that there were no potential health effects associated with the incident, which meant the main concern for households and businesses was temporary disruption rather than a public health response.

For customers, that distinction mattered. A water main break can leave sinks, restrooms, coffee machines and other daily operations stalled for nearby offices, shops and service stations, even when the repair itself is short-lived. The city’s guidance signaled that the system was back in service, but that some customers could still see cloudy or rusty-looking water as lines cleared.

The location has already shown up in Jasper’s utility records before. A separate city notice from February 12 also reported a water main break at College Avenue and Meridian Road, suggesting the intersection has been a repeat trouble spot this year. That kind of repeated break raises a broader question for Jasper’s utility system: whether this stretch needs more than routine patchwork repair.

Jasper Municipal Utilities provides electric, water, natural gas and wastewater service to the city and some surrounding areas. The Jasper Utility Service Board oversees those utilities, and utility emergencies can be reported around the clock by calling 812-482-9131. For questions tied to the break itself, the department listed 812-482-5252.

The quick repair and the lack of a boil advisory kept the April 15 incident contained, but the back-to-back notices at the same intersection leave College Avenue and Meridian Road under closer watch.
