Local Nurse and Faith Leader Dies, Community Mourns Shared Loss
Claribel Claire Prueher, a registered nurse at Perry County Hospital and an active church leader, died on November 26, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Her passing reverberates across Dubois County because it touches clinical staffing at a small hospital, the region s immigrant community, and congregations that rely on faith and caregiving networks.

Claribel “Claire” Prueher, 53, of Bristow, passed away Wednesday November 26, 2025. A registered nurse at Perry County Hospital, she brought decades of clinical experience to patients and a lifetime of faith to congregations across the region. Her death removes an experienced caregiver from a rural health system already facing pressure to maintain nursing staff for essential services.
Born May 25, 1972, in the Philippines to Cezar and Violetta Abiera, Prueher trained and practiced nursing in multiple countries before settling in southern Indiana. She married Roger Prueher on October 9, 2013, in Tell City. Known locally for her singing and for preaching in church, she devoted personal time to sharing her Christian faith while also serving patients at the bedside. She often spoke about living a good life and about looking forward to the resurrection, a faith that carried her through a long struggle with cancer.
The loss highlights several public health and policy issues for Dubois County. Perry County Hospital relies on experienced registered nurses to provide continuity of care, manage chronic disease, and mentor newer staff. In small hospitals across rural Indiana, each departing nurse has an outsized effect on staffing ratios, access to specialized care, and the capacity to respond to community health needs. Prueher s international experience also points to the contributions of immigrant health workers to local health equity and to the importance of supporting licensure pathways and workplace integration that retain such talent.
Her family includes her husband, Roger Prueher of Bristow, brothers Cezar Jr., Michael, Alex, and Thadeo Abiera, sister Maria Irene, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rosario Pechon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. CST at the 7th Day Adventist Church in Tell City. Visitation is scheduled Tuesday December 2 at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. CST and again Wednesday morning at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. CST until services. Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand is handling arrangements.
For neighbors and colleagues, her death is both a personal loss and a reminder of broader challenges in rural health care. Local leaders and healthcare providers may need to address staffing supports, bereavement resources for co workers, and continuing care for patients who formed bonds with Prueher at Perry County Hospital.
