Elnore Ellie L. Eckstein, a retired medical technologist and active community volunteer, died Thursday, December 18, 2025 at age 86. Her decades of service at Memorial Hospital and longtime work with local nonprofits leaves a visible legacy in Jasper and across Dubois County.

Elnore "Ellie" L. Eckstein, 86, of Jasper died Thursday, December 18, 2025. Born March 6, 1939 in Rice Lake Wisconsin, she spent more than three decades as a medical technologist at Memorial Hospital in Jasper and remained a familiar presence in local health and civic circles long after her retirement.
Mrs. Eckstein worked at Memorial Hospital for more than 35 years, a tenure that coincided with major changes in local health care delivery and laboratory technology. Her professional career touched thousands of patients and supported clinicians across Dubois County. After retiring she continued to contribute time and expertise through volunteer work, including sustained involvement with the Lange Fuhs Cancer Center, the Dubois County Humane Society, and Relay for Life efforts that fund local cancer support and research.
Her community engagement extended to faith life as a long time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. Mrs. Eckstein was married to Victor L. Vic Eckstein for 63 years, a partnership that formed a central part of her personal life and ties to the county.
The obituary listed visitation times and noted that a funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 10 00 AM.
