St. Henry’s summer festival is adding a new lane for runners and walkers, and organizers are betting the 4-mile event will bring more people downtown before the food booths even open. The St. Henry Community Club has scheduled the run and walk for 8 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, June 13, as part of the St. Henry Heinrichsdorf Fest, with registration from 7 to 7:45 a.m.

The course will start and finish in downtown St. Henry and follow the four county roads that ring the town, a route that organizers say reflects the hills and flats common in Southern Indiana. That mix should make the event approachable for casual walkers while still giving competitive runners a reason to show up early, race, and stay for the rest of the festival.

The entry fee is $25, and participants who register by May 22 will be guaranteed a T-shirt. Awards will go to the overall male and female winners, along with first-place male and female finishers in each age group, giving the race enough structure to attract both families and more serious distance runners. Heather Schwinghamer and Chris Lindauer are listed as the contacts for people who want more details.

For the festival itself, the race adds another reason to spend the day in St. Henry. The 2026 Heinrichsdorf Fest is scheduled for June 12 and 13, with food stands and the beer garden opening at 5:30 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday. Visit Dubois County describes the event’s signature menu as barbecue chicken, pork chops or fried chicken, along with kids’ activities including a bounce house, Nerf gun shoot, ring toss and duck pond.

The new run and walk gives the longtime community celebration a broader reach. A morning race can pull in out-of-town participants, bring families downtown earlier, and increase traffic for vendors before the main festival crowd arrives. For a volunteer-led event that already anchors a big weekend in St. Henry, the added race is less a side activity than a practical growth move, one that expands the festival’s draw while keeping it tied to the roads, food and neighborhood identity that have made it a local staple.
