Forsyth, Cherokee Youth Football and Cheer Leagues Partner Starting 2026
Forsyth County leagues will partner with Cherokee County starting in 2026 to expand youth football and cheer opportunities, affecting registration, field schedules and community volunteer needs.
Forsyth County Youth Football and Cheerleading Leagues announced a formal partnership with the Cherokee County Youth Football Association to combine resources and expand program opportunities beginning with the 2026 season. County leaders say the move aims to strengthen league structure, deepen competition and create a more consistent, community-focused experience for athletes, families, coaches and volunteers.
“This alignment represents an exciting opportunity to grow and enhance youth sports across our communities,” said Director of Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Kirk Franz. “By working together, we can provide a stronger league structure, improve competition and continue to foster an environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, development and fun for our young athletes.”
The partnership was announced Jan. 27, 2026, and league officials from both organizations will spend the coming months finalizing league structure, operations and seasonal details in preparation for the 2026 season. Registration for the Forsyth County Football and Cheerleading League opens Sunday, Feb. 1. Those interested in registering can find more information on the Parks & Recreation pages at forsythco.com. Additional information, including scheduling and program updates, will be shared as plans are completed.
Local impacts will be felt across practices, game-day schedules and volunteer logistics. Combining leagues may increase roster spots and provide more consistent age divisions and competition levels, which could improve skill development and game experience for players. Families should expect adjustments to travel and field assignments as organizers align schedules between Forsyth and Cherokee sites. Volunteer roles for coaches, officials and sideline helpers may expand, creating opportunities but also heightening demand for trained adults.

Public health and equity considerations are central to the county’s planning. Larger, cross-county leagues typically require increased attention to safety protocols, access to certified coaching, concussion awareness and equitable equipment distribution. Forsyth County Parks & Recreation’s coordination role will be important for enforcing safety standards and keeping participation affordable for households across income levels. The partnership also intersects with broader recreational planning in the county as officials balance field availability and maintenance needs.
Forsyth County Parks & Recreation expressed appreciation for the ongoing support of families, volunteers and community partners who make youth sports possible. The county is updating its 10-year Parks & Recreation Master Plan and encourages residents to participate in the Master Plan survey to help guide future parks, programs and recreational opportunities throughout Forsyth County.
For parents and coaches, the immediate next steps are clear: register players starting Feb. 1 at forsythco.com, watch for updates as league structures are finalized, and consider volunteering for coaching or field support as the combined leagues ramp up. The partnership promises more organized options for Forsyth youth sports, but success will depend on community participation, safety oversight and attention to equitable access across neighborhoods.
