Forsyth County Board of Commissioners Work Session Set for Feb. 10

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to meet for a work session on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 2:00 p.m. The notice published Feb. 3 lists the meeting location as the Commissioners’ Large Conference Room (Suite 210) at the Forsyth County Administration Building, 110 East Main Street, with the truncated address in the notice aligning with the County Administration Building in Cumming.

Because two separate counties share the Forsyth County name, local residents should note that public materials from Forsyth County, Georgia and Forsyth County, North Carolina both appear in recent postings and carry different procedures and viewing options. Forsyth County, Georgia web material identifies Suite 210 on the second floor of the County Administration Building in Cumming and says the commission holds work sessions twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesdays, convening at 2 p.m. It adds that meetings are open to the public and “can be viewed online … and on TV Forsyth (on Comcast channel 23 and AT&T channel 99).”

Forsyth County, North Carolina postings reference the Forsyth County Government Center at 201 N. Chestnut Street in Winston‑Salem and list multiple calendar entries for January through April, including briefings, winter work sessions and evening meetings. The North Carolina site lists streaming on Forsyth County YouTube and Facebook, streaming on the county website, and live broadcast on WSTV13 on Spectrum cable. That site also provides a phone option for public comment: “Comments are also accepted by calling 336-422-1200 at 1:45 p.m on the day of the meeting. You will be placed on hold and recognized to speak in the order your call was received.”

Public participation rules differ in each jurisdiction’s materials. Forsyth County, Georgia language includes these limits: “The number of speakers during the Public Comments portion of the meeting is limited to twenty (20) - ten (10) at the beginning and ten (10) at the second portion. The speakers are selected on a first-come basis and will be heard in the order in which they have signed up, with the exception that Forsyth County residents will be allowed to address the Board first, with non-county residents to follow until the allotted time for Public Comments has expired. Each speaker is limited to three (3) minutes. Each of the two (2) Public Comments portions of the meeting is limited to thirty (30) minutes. Extension of the sixty (60) minutes, three (3) minutes per speaker and the number of speakers may be granted, by a majority vote of the board.” Forsyth County, North Carolina also restricts speakers to three minutes and limits the public session to 30 minutes, and requires in-person speaker cards delivered to the Clerk to the Board before the meeting begins.

The Jan. 21 notice posted by Ashleigh B. Matthews, Clerk to the Board in Winston‑Salem, includes formal posting instructions: “A copy of this notice shall be posted on the bulletin boards located outside the Commissioners’ Meeting Room on the fifth floor and also in the lobby on the first floor of the Forsyth County Government Center. A copy of the notice shall be sent to all who receive notification of any changes in the Commissioners’ regular meeting schedule.” That notice also contains a repeated sentence listing two start times for a Jan. 29 winter work session, underscoring timing inconsistencies in public postings: “NOTICE is hereby given that the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners’ Winter Work Session scheduled for January 29, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room on the fourth floor of the Forsyth County Government Center, 201 North Chestnut Street, Winston-Salem, N.C., will be held in the Multipurpose Room on the fourth floor of the Forsyth County Government Center, 201 North Chestnut Street, Winston-Salem, N.C. on January 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.”

What this means for readers is practical. If you plan to attend or speak at the Feb. 10 work session, confirm the meeting location, start time and the correct county calendar before traveling. Check whether public comment sign-up forms will be available outside the meeting room at 4:30 p.m. when doors open, whether a phone-in option will be offered, and which channel or streaming service will carry the session. County calendars also show related events - including a Feb. 9 briefing at 2:00 p.m., a Feb. 12 winter work session and meeting, and county representation at the NACo Legislative Conference Feb. 21-24 - that may affect commissioners’ schedules and agenda sequencing.
