Forsyth County Walk for Recovery Honors Addiction Victims April 26

A memorial tea-cup lighting ceremony will mark the emotional centerpiece of Forsyth County's annual Walk for Recovery, set for April 26 at the Cumming City Center, where families, health providers, and recovery advocates will gather to honor those lost to overdose and addiction.

The Forsyth County Drug Awareness Council is organizing the free, two-hour event, which runs from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 423 Canton Road. Cumming Mayor Troy Brumbalow is among the confirmed guest speakers. The afternoon also includes musical performances, discussion panels, resource tables, and family-friendly games, making the program equally accessible to those in active grief and those looking for a first point of contact with recovery services.

The tea-cup lighting ceremony functions as a collective act of remembrance, giving attendees a tangible ritual alongside the afternoon's more practical programming. Organizers have emphasized a nonjudgmental approach throughout the event's design, aiming to lower the barrier for people who might not otherwise seek help. Discussion panels will feature both professionals and families sharing firsthand experience, while resource tables will provide information on treatment options, recovery coaching, harm reduction, and family support services.
