Johns Creek Battle of the Bands Spotlights Local Talent Ahead of Summer Festival
Johns Creek's Battle of the Bands drew local musicians to Newtown Park on March 7, kicking off the city's free summer concert series at the Mark Burkhalter Amphitheater.

Local bands took the stage at the Mark Burkhalter Amphitheater inside Newtown Park on March 7 for Johns Creek's annual Battle of the Bands, a free community showcase designed to surface homegrown musical talent and feed directly into the city's broader summer concert calendar.
The city billed the event as "the ultimate showdown of local talent," opening the competition to both youth and adult musicians who applied for the chance to perform at the Newtown Park amphitheater. The contest ran on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. and was free to attend.
The Battle of the Bands served as Concert No. 1 in the city's 2026 Summer Concert Series, with five additional performances scheduled through September at Newtown Park. The series functions as one of the most visible threads in Johns Creek's year-round civic programming, and the Battle of the Bands acts as its opening act in the most literal sense: the winner earns a pathway onto a stage that draws some of the city's largest summer crowds.
The broader summer concert series is a free, family-friendly program brought to the public by the City of Johns Creek. Gates open at 6 p.m. for each show, with music beginning at 7 p.m. Food trucks are on-site at each concert, beer and wine are available for purchase, no outside alcohol is permitted, and seating is first-come, first-served.

The Mark Burkhalter Amphitheater at Newtown Park serves as the venue for the full concert series. The park is located at 3150 Old Alabama Road in Johns Creek.
The remaining summer concerts already have confirmed headliners taking shape: an Ultimate Garth Brooks tribute act is scheduled for May 2, followed by Carpool, a Cars tribute band, on June 6. The lineup illustrates a city leaning on tribute acts and proven crowd favorites to anchor its outdoor summer programming, with the Battle of the Bands providing the one slot reserved entirely for local voices.
Johns Creek's Summer Concert Series ranks among the most popular events at Newtown Park, and the Battle of the Bands has become its unofficial audition stage, giving neighborhood musicians a shot at performing before the same crowds that will fill the amphitheater's lawn through the summer.
