Late-night Johns Creek fire destroys Winding Bridge Way home
A garage-area blaze ripped through a Johns Creek home, forcing firefighters back as the roof collapsed and leaving the house a total loss.

A late-night garage fire on Winding Bridge Way in Johns Creek turned into a total-loss house fire within minutes, with crews forced to retreat when the ceiling and roof began collapsing over the front entry.
Johns Creek firefighters were called to 840 Winding Bridge Way around 11:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, after reports of flames pouring through the home. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire engulfing the residence. Firefighters went in through the front door at first, but conditions quickly deteriorated as part of the structure gave way, including a partial collapse of the second story.
Crews used aerial support to knock down the flames, then sent in a drone to search for remaining hot spots after the main fire was brought under control. Investigators believe the blaze may have started in the garage area, a detail that matters for homeowners in newer subdivisions across North Fulton and Forsyth County, where attached garages, attic space and rooflines can give fire a fast path into the rest of a house. Officials said no injuries were reported, and the home was considered a total loss.
A neighbor told FOX 5 Atlanta the house was empty when the fire broke out. Officials believe a family of three may have lived there. Hours after the fire was extinguished early Tuesday, smoke could still be seen coming from the roof area, a sign of how deeply the fire had worked into the structure.
The incident is one more reminder for homeowners to look hard at the spaces that often get ignored until something goes wrong: the garage, attic access points, electrical equipment and anything stored near heat sources. Fires that begin in a garage can spread rapidly through framing and roof voids, leaving little time for escape once flames reach the living space.
