Woman's Body Found in Cumming Woods, Dead Possibly for Weeks
A woman's body found in woods near Bald Ridge and Pirkle Ferry roads had likely been there for weeks, the Forsyth County Coroner said.

Cumming police officers discovered a woman's body Friday afternoon in a grassy area behind several local shops and a neighborhood near Bald Ridge and Pirkle Ferry roads, and the Forsyth County Coroner believes the body had likely been at the location for several weeks before anyone found it.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the scene, where witnesses reported seeing roughly 20 police cars along with drones and helicopters deployed to comb the wooded area behind local businesses. The GBI is now working to identify the woman and is conducting an autopsy to determine her cause and manner of death.
Authorities have not released the woman's identity or her cause of death. It remains unclear whether foul play is suspected, and investigators have not shared details about how the body ended up in the woods or whether there are any active suspects. Local authorities say they are waiting on autopsy results and further forensic evidence before providing additional updates.
Adding to the unresolved questions surrounding the case, Cumming police and other agencies had investigated a nearby home the day before the body was discovered. No details about that earlier investigation, including its location or purpose, have been made public, and it is not known whether it is connected to Friday's discovery.
Lamar Greenway, who lives down the street from where the body was found, called the news disturbing. "Hope they get to the bottom of it and figure out what happened," Greenway said.
The death investigation remains ongoing.
