A 64 year old man died after being shot during a neighbor disturbance Wednesday evening, December 24, 2025 in northeast Fresno, police said. Authorities arrested a 74 year old suspect and recovered the suspected firearm, a development that raises safety concerns for residents during the holiday period.

Fresno police said a confrontation between neighbors escalated into a fatal shooting Wednesday evening near Clinton Avenue and Bond Street in the citys northeast neighborhood. Officers from the Northeast Policing District responded about 6:17 p.m. to a reported disturbance and located 64 year old Mark Tarasevic with a single gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives identified 74 year old John Gentry as a suspect in the killing. Police arrested and booked Gentry on suspicion of murder and recovered the firearm believed to have been used. The Fresno Police Department said detectives continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the shooting and have asked anyone with information to contact Detective R. The incident occurred at a time when many families are gathering for the holidays, intensifying concerns about neighborhood safety and conflict resolution. A shooting in a residential area can have immediate consequences for local property values, perceptions of safety, and community wellbeing. For nearby residents the visible presence of investigators and patrols can be unsettling, and the loss of life casts a long shadow over the block where the disturbance occurred.

For now the primary public safety goal is to gather witness accounts and physical evidence that clarify what triggered the confrontation. Homicide detectives are the lead investigators and the recovered weapon will factor into the forensic inquiry and any criminal charges. Neighbors with video surveillance or who were in the area are urged to contact the listed detectives or Crime Stoppers to assist the investigation. Local leaders and residents will be watching for more information as the case moves through the criminal justice system.
