Backroads Boards Popup Brings Artisan Charcuterie, Local Vendors to River Road Cottage March 21
Backroads Boards of Goochland brought locally made charcuterie boards and artisan vendors to River Road Cottage in Maidens on March 21.

Backroads Boards of Goochland set up shop Saturday morning at River Road Cottage, 2905 River Road W in Maidens, drawing shoppers to a three-hour popup that ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and centered on locally made charcuterie-style boards alongside a curated mix of artisan vendors.
The event found a fitting host in River Road Cottage, which occupies two historical buildings in the Goochland Courthouse Village and operates across three floors with more than 50 artisans and vendors already in residence. The venue's standing inventory spans furniture, home decor, artisan crafts, jewelry, gifts, and food, making the Backroads Boards popup a natural extension of what the cottage has offered since it opened.
Saturday's gathering added a focused food-craft element to that broader marketplace, with Backroads Boards of Goochland presenting the charcuterie-style boards as the anchor offering alongside other artisan goods. The popup format, a compressed window of three hours on a Saturday, has become a familiar device for small makers looking to reach an existing audience without committing to a permanent retail footprint.

River Road Cottage's position along River Road West, well west of the county seat, means it draws visitors who make the drive deliberately rather than stumbling in from a busier corridor. That built-in audience gave Saturday's popup a ready customer base already accustomed to browsing handmade and vintage goods across the cottage's floors.
