Fluvanna tops Goochland 7-3 in Jefferson District rematch
Fluvanna County answered Goochland’s April 30 win with a 7-3 rematch victory at Goochland, tightening the Jefferson District race and handing the Bulldogs just their third loss.

Fluvanna County turned the tables in the Jefferson District rematch, beating Goochland 7-3 at Goochland and handing the Bulldogs just their third loss of the season. The result mattered because it came only four days after Goochland had beaten the Flying Flucos 7-1 at Sheridan Field in Palmyra, making the two-game swing a clear measure of how little separated the district’s top teams.
The split left both programs still positioned as serious postseason contenders, but it also showed how quickly momentum could shift in late April and early May. Goochland had gone into the first meeting with a strong district resume, while Fluvanna entered that April 30 game 6-0 in Jefferson District play and 10-3 overall. After the rematch, MaxPreps listed Goochland at 14-3 overall and Fluvanna County at 14-5 overall, with the Flucos also sitting at 11-2 in Region play as of May 12.

For Goochland, the loss came during a dense stretch of district games that kept the Bulldogs in constant scoreboard pressure. The team’s May slate included a 9-6 win over Louisa County on May 7, part of a packed run that made every district result carry immediate seeding implications. Fluvanna was navigating a similar stretch, with games against Charlottesville, Orange County, Western Albemarle and Louisa County crowding the schedule around the rematch.
Fluvanna’s regular season also had a clear finish line. The Flucos were set to close with home games against Western Albemarle on May 14 and Louisa County on May 19, giving the rematch added significance as the Jefferson District sorted out where the upper tier would settle before the postseason. In a race this tight, a three-run margin did more than decide one afternoon. It helped redraw the picture at the top of the district.
After the game, Fluvanna coach Jacob Critzer summed up the volatility of the rematch in two words: “This is baseball.”
