Hidden Rock Park drew families of all ages Saturday morning as Goochland County Parks & Recreation staged its second annual EggXtreme Egg Hunt, with the two-hour event running from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

The hunt used a format that sets it apart from a typical egg scramble: eggs placed throughout the park were left unfilled, and participants collected them and turned them in after the hunt to receive prizes. The one exception was a single golden egg hidden somewhere within the park grounds, which carried a grand prize for whoever tracked it down.

Rather than releasing all participants onto the same course at once, organizers divided the hunt into three separate competitions for different age groups, giving younger children a field of their own. Families were asked to bring their own baskets or bags for collecting and encouraged to arrive dressed in springtime attire.

A mystery guest was also on hand for photos. The county's promotional materials described the visitor only as someone "who might just be hopping by" without disclosing a name or identity ahead of the event.

The EggXtreme Egg Hunt, now in its second year at Hidden Rock Park, is one of more than a dozen special events Goochland County Parks & Recreation has scheduled for 2026. The calendar continues with a Concert in the Park at Tucker Park on April 24, featuring the band Permanent Vacation, followed by another at Old GES Field on May 29 with Gone Country. The fall lineup includes an Ag Fair at Old GES Field on September 12, a Fall Festival on October 24, and a Holiday Market at Goochland Sports Complex on November 21.

Goochland County Parks & Recreation can be reached at 804-556-5800, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the full 2026 events calendar posted on the county's website.
