William McKinley Barrett, 79, of Goochland died March 24; funeral services are today at Second Union Baptist Church.

William McKinley Barrett, 79, a longtime resident of Goochland, died Tuesday, March 24, 2026. His remains were placed in the care of Robert Mealy Funeral Home at 2530 Dogtown Road in Goochland, which is handling arrangements.
A viewing is scheduled from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. today, Sunday, March 29, at Second Union Baptist Church in Goochland, followed immediately by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the same location.
Barrett is survived by his loving family, according to his obituary published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Members of the Goochland community began posting tributes to Barrett's online guestbook on March 28. "We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of William," wrote Connie Christian Mormon and family. "May you find comfort in the cherished moments you shared together, and remember God is only a prayer away." Deloris and James Shelton, writing as friends of the family, addressed their condolences directly to a family member: "Shirley, we are sending prayers and our condolences. We're so very sorry for your loss." Artto and Lorine Fleming added, "Please remember that you're not alone in your grief. Lean on the love and support of friends and family as you navigate through this difficult journey."
The Mealy Funeral Home and staff also posted a message, offering "deepest condolences and praying for comfort and strength during this time of sorrow."
