Elk Rapids blanks Glen Lake 6-0, advances to face Leland
Elk Rapids shut out Maple City Glen Lake 6-0 in district girls soccer, then turned its attention to Leland with a postseason path still open.

Elk Rapids kept its district run alive with authority, blanking Maple City Glen Lake 6-0 in varsity girls soccer on May 21 and moving on to face Leland next. In a tournament where one mistake can end a season, the Elks did not leave room for doubt.
MHSAA brackets list the final as Elk Rapids 6, Maple City Glen Lake 0, a result that showed both offensive finish and defensive control. The shutout mattered as much for what it prevented as for what it produced: Glen Lake never found the net, and Elk Rapids handled a pressure-filled district matchup without letting the game tighten.

That kind of result fits the way Elk Rapids has played through the spring. The Elks also posted an 8-0 win over Grayling, a 6-0 win over Kalkaska and a 3-1 win over Charlevoix. MHSAA has also noted that the program became the first soccer team in Elk Rapids High School history, boys or girls, to finish a regular season unbeaten, a marker that adds weight to every postseason step they take now.
The next test brings a familiar name. Leland beat Elk Rapids 2-1 in last year’s district final, a result that gave Friday’s matchup added edge even before the bracket was set. MHSAA has also said Elk Rapids limited Leland to one shot in a district-title win, proof that the Elks have already shown they can control that opponent when the stakes climb.
The broader tournament path is now clear. MHSAA’s 2026 girls soccer postseason calendar set district play for May 20-22 and May 26-30, with regionals June 2-6, semifinals June 9-10 and the state finals June 12-13 at DeMartin Soccer Complex in East Lansing. For Elk Rapids, the 6-0 win over Glen Lake was more than a routine advance. It was another sign that the Elks may be peaking at exactly the right time.
