Grand Traverse County Aging Office Closes Two Days for Construction Work
The Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging closed its office Monday and Tuesday for construction, but phone lines stayed live and field staff kept their client visits.

The Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging shut its office doors to walk-in visitors Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24, 2026, while construction work was carried out inside the building. The closure affected only the physical office, not the agency's broader services.
Phone lines remained staffed throughout both days, and field staff continued seeing their regularly scheduled clients as normal. The Commission on Aging is ordinarily open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closing midday from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch. The two-day shutdown marked a limited but complete suspension of in-person access to the office.
The county was explicit that the disruption would not ripple into home-based care. "We will be answering phones as usual, and our field staff will be seeing their regularly scheduled clients," the county stated in its notice. "Walk-in visits will not be available during this time."
The Commission on Aging's mission is to offer home- and community-based services to maintain and improve the quality of life for senior citizens in Grand Traverse County. The agency serves county residents aged 60 and older. Its field operations, which include home visits and in-person client care delivered away from the office, were unaffected by the construction schedule.
The COA office is located at 1615 Park Drive in Traverse City, where it has been since moving in 2024 to share a building with the Area Agency on Aging. Clients with questions can reach the Commission on Aging directly at 231-922-4688.
