Grand Traverse County Jail Lobby Closed Feb. 2 to 6; Kiosks Unavailable

The Grand Traverse County Jail said its lobby will be closed from Monday, February 2, through Friday, February 6, due to a scheduled facility maintenance project. During this period, the video visitation kiosks and the money deposit kiosk will be unavailable.

The closure affects anyone who uses the lobby for in-person visitation or to deposit funds directly at the jail. Visitation can still be conducted online or via phone through the jail’s visitation provider, and bonds, payments and commissary deposits can be made through the county’s online payment portal. For help using those services, the jail published two assistance lines: 866-340-7879 for the visitation vendor and 866-422-6833 for Express account inquiries.

Practical steps for visitors were spelled out by corrections staff. If medication needs to be dropped off, visitors are advised to use the call button outside the jail lobby, and corrections staff will provide assistance. The jail administration expressed gratitude for the public's patience during the lobby improvements.

The closure was announced in a Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office notice and comes during an ongoing work window that began Monday. Local residents with scheduled visits, attorneys, or those planning to post bond should plan to use the phone or online options until the lobby reopens Friday. Individuals without internet access who need to post bond or make urgent payments should call the posted assistance numbers for guidance.

This maintenance follows a prior lobby shutdown in June 2025, when county officials closed the lobby while investigating the cause of a newly cracked tile floor. County leaders have not provided further technical details about the current maintenance project, including the specific repairs or the daily hours of the closure.

What this means for Grand Traverse County residents is straightforward: in-person kiosk services at the jail will be offline through Feb. 6, and families should confirm visitation arrangements ahead of time. The sheriff’s office and jail recommend using the visitation and payments portals or the assistance phone lines, and to use the lobby call button only for medication drop-off.
