Kitchen Choreography to Open New Oakwood District Studio in April 2026
Kitchen Choreography is leaving its 1896 Steward's residence at the Grand Traverse Commons for a mid-century modern studio on 8th Street near the Civic Center.

After more than a decade inside a 129-year-old building at the Grand Traverse Commons, Kitchen Choreography is trading Victorian bones for mid-century modern lines. The Traverse City design and remodeling firm founded by Mike and Angela Goodall announced plans to open a new studio on 8th Street in the Oakwood District in April 2026, near the Civic Center.
The move closes a chapter that began in July 2012, when the Goodalls relocated their firm into the Grand Traverse Commons' former Steward's residence, a 3,500-square-foot structure originally built in 1896. Before opening there, the firm undertook extensive renovations on the historic property, work that earned Kitchen Choreography recognition from the History Center Awards Committee of Traverse City in 2013 for its restoration efforts and commitment to historic preservation.
The new 8th Street space represents a deliberate aesthetic departure. Where the Commons showroom leaned into the site's late-19th-century character, the Oakwood District studio is described as oriented toward a mid-century modern sensibility, positioning the firm closer to Traverse City's downtown core.
"This next chapter reflects both growth and evolution," said Angela Goodall, co-owner and lead designer. "We are thrilled to be in the center of it all, closer to our clients, collaborators, and the vibrant downtown energy of Traverse City."
Kitchen Choreography was founded in April 2003 and has completed more than 1,000 projects across Northern Michigan in the 23 years since. Mike Goodall framed the relocation not as a break from the firm's identity but as an extension of it. "Restoration and thoughtful renovation have always been part of our story," he said.
The Goodalls will retain ownership of the historic Grand Traverse Commons property after the move and said they have future plans for the site, though no specifics have been released. Additional details about the new studio and any opening events will be announced as April approaches.
