Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist has purchased the parcel at 3800 N. Church Street in north Greensboro for $2.05 million and plans a freestanding emergency department on the site, according to local deed records and reporting. The Guilford County Register of Deeds shows the deed recorded with Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center listed as grantee; WFMY News 2 reported the deed reflects a Feb. 18 purchase from Kotis Holdings LLC.

Local reporting identifies Kotis Holdings LLC as seller and notes Marty Kotis as the company manager, with Marsh Prause listed as an authorized representative in North Carolina filings. JournalNow reported the purchase price as $2.05 million, while Triad Business Journal described the sale as for more than $2 million. WFMY also reported Atrium has not yet purchased its second proposed Greensboro site at 4007 S. Elm‑Eugene Street.

Atrium’s proposal calls for a 24‑hour freestanding emergency department at the Church Street site; WFMY summarized the plan this way: "The proposed facility would run 24 hours a day." Triad Business Journal detailed that both proposed Greensboro emergency departments would be 11,532 square feet and that "Both emergency departments would be open 24/7 and provide immediate, comprehensive emergency care, including imaging, lab and pharmacy services."

Triad Business Journal provided project cost estimates, saying the Church Street location is expected to cost $28 million and the Elm‑Eugene Street facility a proposed $36 million, a combined $64 million in project proposals. The same report stated if state regulators approve the applications, both freestanding emergency departments would plan to open in January 2028. Triad Business Journal also reported state regulators will decide on the $64 million project proposals in March.

The proposal has proceeded through the state certificate-of-need public process. Triad Business Journal and RhinoTimes reported a public hearing on Dec. 17, 2025 where Chadwick Miller, a board‑certified emergency physician at AHWFB Medical Center Emergency Department, spoke about the benefits of the proposed facilities. RhinoTimes noted regulators use those hearings to weigh whether projects meet community needs, and that residents could attend hearings at venues such as the McGirt‑Horton Branch Library.

If approved, RhinoTimes said, "If approved, the facility would become Greensboro’s fourth emergency department. It would join Cone Health’s existing ERs at Moses Cone Hospital on North Church Street, Wesley Long Hospital on West Friendly Avenue, and the Cone Health MedCenter at Drawbridge Parkway." RhinoTimes added that "With Cone Health’s long-established footprint and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist now expanding eastward, Greensboro’s emergency-care landscape is becoming more competitive."

WFMY reported it has reached out to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist for a projected opening date; Triad Business Journal remains the source for the Jan. 2028 target and the $28 million/$36 million cost figures. The deed, the sale to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, the $2.05 million reported price, the Dec. 17 public hearing, and the regulatory timeline provide concrete milestones for neighbors, planners, and state reviewers as the project moves through review.
