Guilford and Forsyth counties rank among the lowest in North Carolina for early prenatal care, and heart disease remains a leading cause of death in Guilford County. Cone Health is sending two mobile clinics directly into Piedmont Triad neighborhoods to confront both problems at once.

The health system's Healthy Heart Mobile Unit will provide screenings and education for high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. A second unit will focus on gynecologic services, including prenatal and reproductive care. Cone Health says both units are designed to reach underserved communities and connect patients with follow-up care, addressing gaps that persist even as brick-and-mortar facilities remain out of reach for many residents across the region.

Cone Health cited the county-level health data in its own news release to explain the program's urgency. The statistics place Guilford and Forsyth squarely among North Carolina's worst performers on early prenatal care access, a finding that points to barriers well beyond individual choice, including transportation, insurance coverage and the scarcity of providers willing or able to serve high-need neighborhoods.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Monday, March 23, at 10 a.m. at the Renaissance Shops, where the public can tour the two units.

No deployment schedule listing specific neighborhoods, cities or regular stops across the Piedmont Triad has been released, and Cone Health has not yet named the staffing model, operating hours or referral pathways for either unit.
