Crash Closes Southbound I-85 Near Mount Hope Church Road in Greensboro

A crash on southbound I-85 near the Mount Hope Church Road exit sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries Saturday afternoon, closing three right lanes at Mile Marker 132 and backing up traffic across a stretch of Guilford County that connects the Triad to Raleigh.

The collision was first reported at approximately 2:12 p.m. Guilford EMS dispatched three ambulances and a supervisor to the scene, and two patients were transported with serious injuries, according to local emergency response reports. WFMY News 2 initially reported the closure was expected to last until about 5:12 p.m., but later updates indicated that all lanes except the far right had reopened by approximately 2:40 p.m., well ahead of that projection.

While lanes cleared faster than initially expected, the closure still disrupted travel along one of the region's primary north-south corridors. Authorities on site directed traffic and advised motorists to seek alternate routes until lanes reopened.
