Greensboro Burger King Fire Causes Over $100,000 in Damage, No Injuries
A fire at the Burger King on Summit Ave left more than $100,000 in damage and temporarily shut down a stretch of road in Greensboro Thursday.

A fire that ripped through the Burger King at 1201 Summit Ave in Greensboro caused more than $100,000 in damage Thursday and forced the closure of a nearby road as firefighters worked the scene. No injuries were reported.
Greensboro Fire Department crews from the Summit area responded to the blaze, which gutted portions of the restaurant. The road closure disrupted traffic along one of northeast Greensboro's busier commercial corridors while fire units remained on site.
The restaurant, which serves customers daily from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., had been a consistent stop for drivers along Summit Ave. With damage exceeding $100,000, the location faces a significant rebuild timeline before it can reopen. Structural fire damage at that threshold typically means weeks to months of repairs, dependent on insurance assessments, contractor availability, and any code-compliance work required before Guilford County issues a certificate of occupancy.
The cause of the fire had not been officially released as of Thursday. Greensboro Fire investigators were expected to examine the scene to determine the origin and whether any code violations contributed to the damage. The franchise ownership and any prior inspection history at the location had not yet been made public.
Workers scheduled for shifts at the Summit Ave location face an uncertain return, as corporate and franchise management typically determine pay continuation and reassignment policies during closures of this length on a case-by-case basis.
