Greensboro man arrested after Patio Place shooting leaves victim critical

A late-night shooting in Greensboro left one person with life-threatening injuries and sent police back to a stretch of Patio Place that residents have seen in earlier gunfire reports. Greensboro police said 25-year-old Keshawn Calvin Johnson was arrested early Wednesday after the shooting in the 2700 block of Patio Place.

Officers were called to the area at about 11:33 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a discharge. When they arrived, they found a victim at the scene. Guilford County EMS took that person to a local hospital, where the victim remained hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Johnson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm within city limits. He was scheduled for his first court appearance on Thursday, June 18. Police have not released additional details about what led to the shooting, and the case remained under active investigation.

That leaves open the questions that often matter most to neighbors after a gunfire call: whether the shooting was random, targeted or tied to another dispute. Investigators have not said. For now, the facts that have been released are the location, the late-night response, the arrest and the severity of the injuries.

Patio Place in the 2700 block has surfaced in earlier local shooting reports in prior years, including reporting from 2021. That history does not answer what happened Tuesday night, but it does help explain why another shooting there is likely to draw close attention from residents in the surrounding Greensboro neighborhoods.
