Police investigate infant death after grandmother's call in west Houston
A 4-month-old boy was found bleeding and unresponsive at a west Houston apartment complex before dawn. Investigators still had not said what caused his death.

A family member’s 911 call from a west Houston apartment complex sent police to a 4-month-old boy who was bleeding and unresponsive before sunrise Friday at 2800 South Dairy Ashford Road, near Westheimer Road. The infant was later pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators had not said yet what caused the death.
Click2Houston said a woman called and described the child as her grandchild, while KHOU reported the baby’s mother called 911 after saying the child was bleeding. Houston Fire Department paramedics encountered the mother carrying the baby through the complex, and some reports said the infant had bleeding from the nose and mouth. Some reports identified the complex as Verano Apartments.
City of Houston reporting identified the infant as a male, 4 months old, and said his identity and cause of death were pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Houston police said the call came in about 3:45 a.m. on April 17, 2026, and Homicide Division sergeant K. Meek and detectives K. Aloysius and G. Zavala responded.
Some reports said a person was detained at the scene, but no arrest or charge had been announced. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences handles sudden or unexplained deaths through autopsy and other forensic testing, which is why the case remained unresolved immediately after the call. Investigators have not said whether there were warning signs in the apartment complex or in the child’s care environment, and those unanswered questions will determine whether the death is ruled medical, accidental, neglect-related or criminal. Houston police said tips can be reported to the Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
