RV Fire Sparks Fireworks Container Explosions in Northwest Harris County
Fireworks exploded into the air on Kuykendahl Road after an RV fire ignited a shipping container; one person escaped the RV unharmed.

Fireworks shot into the air above northwest Harris County on Wednesday evening after an RV fire at the 23300 block of Kuykendahl spread to an adjacent shipping container filled with pyrotechnics, sending flames into a nearby wooded area and shutting down both a road and a railroad line. The person inside the RV when the fire broke out escaped without injury, and no other injuries were reported.
Spring Fire Department crews arrived just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Hufsmith-Kuykendahl Road and Kuykendahl Road, where the blaze had already jumped from the RV to the fireworks-filled container. The fire then ignited a grass fire that spread into surrounding woods and reached the rail line running across Kuykendahl. Departments from Klein, The Woodlands, Magnolia, and Tomball joined Spring Fire on scene, along with Harris County Fire Marshal's Office investigators and Harris County Constable Precinct 4 deputies. Over 20 units responded in total, with tankers and booster trucks called in to handle the scale of the fire.
The scene was dramatic enough to light up social media. Video showed fireworks bursting upward in a plume of smoke, visible to residents throughout the area. The fire marshal noted that fireworks were flying into the air when the shipping container went up in flames.
Spring Fire Department Chief Kevin Wiseman described the initial minutes as a race against the wind. "Initially there was just a lot of fire and the wind had pushed the fire into the woods, so we had more of a threat of the fire spreading to the neighborhood," Wiseman said.

Crews ultimately controlled the grass fire and extinguished the shipping container. Kuykendahl near State Highway 99 was closed during the response, as were the railroad tracks crossing Kuykendahl. Officials asked drivers to avoid the area or expect delays while crews worked to knock down hot spots.
The cause of the original RV fire remains unknown. Investigators from the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office will now work to determine how the fire started and whether the fireworks stored in the container were kept in compliance with safety regulations. The investigation is ongoing.
