Hernando-Citrus transportation advisory meetings canceled for July 23

Three Hernando-Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization advisory meetings scheduled for July 23 will not take place, delaying the next chance for residents to weigh in on roadway, bicycle and pedestrian priorities across Hernando and Citrus counties. The canceled sessions are the Technical Advisory Committee, Citizens Advisory Committee and Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee, known as TAC, CAC and BPAC.

Those panels help steer transportation planning for Hernando County, Citrus County and the cities of Brooksville, Inverness and Crystal River, a region the MPO says serves more than 350,000 people. When the committees meet, members review road and mobility issues, discuss project lists and public concerns, and take up items that can shape how quickly intersection timing, sidewalk gaps, trail connections and transit questions move through the regional process. With the July 23 meetings off the calendar, that discussion shifts to the next round of posted agendas and public comment.

The cancellation lands in a year already marked by several MPO Board cancellations. The Hernando-Citrus MPO’s 2026 meeting calendar lists board cancellations on Jan. 8, March 5, April 2, July 2 and Aug. 6, and the calendar says agendas are available about one week before each meeting. For residents following traffic pressure on major corridors and neighborhood streets, that means fewer scheduled chances to question project rankings, road safety fixes and other mobility priorities before they move farther into the county and state review process.

The TAC also has a formal statutory basis. Its bylaws, amended Dec. 5, 2024, cite Section 339.175, Florida Statutes, which governs metropolitan planning organizations. Past committee materials show the TAC meeting at the Lecanto Government Building, 3600 W Sovereign Path, Room 166, while MPO Board meetings have been listed at Brooksville City Hall Council Chambers, 201 Howell Avenue, giving the public fixed places where transportation decisions usually come into view.

For Hernando County residents tracking the 2027-2030 transportation planning cycle, long-range corridor priorities and TIP updates, the July 23 cancellations remove one more opportunity for direct input before plans harden. The next posted agendas will show when those discussions resume.
