Hernando County Deputies Investigate Pedestrian Struck Near U.S. 19, Ridge Road
A pedestrian died Monday near U.S. 19 and Ridge Road in Hernando County; Florida Highway Patrol is investigating while southbound lanes faced extended closure.

A pedestrian was killed Monday after being struck by a vehicle near U.S. Route 19 and Ridge Road in Hernando County, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office reported.
Florida Highway Patrol is leading the crash investigation, according to HCSO. Following the collision, all southbound lanes of U.S. Route 19 south of Ridge Road were expected to remain closed for an extended period, officials said.
No additional injuries were reported in connection with the crash. Authorities have not released the victim's name, age, or any information about the driver or vehicle involved.

The stretch of U.S. 19 near Ridge Road is a heavily traveled corridor through Hernando County, and the lane closures signaled the seriousness with which investigators approached the scene. FHP has not issued a public statement detailing the circumstances that led to the pedestrian entering the roadway.
HCSO referred the investigation to Florida Highway Patrol, which is standard procedure for fatal traffic crashes in Florida. No charges or arrests have been announced.
