Hernando County Public Library Restores Inter-Library Loan Services March 23
Hernando County's library system brought back inter-library loan access on March 23, with patrons now able to borrow up to 4 items a month from libraries across Florida.

Hernando County library cardholders regained access to one of the system's most practical services last week. The Hernando County Public Library System began offering inter-library loans again on March 23, 2026. Patrons can now place requests to borrow materials from libraries outside the Hernando County Public Library System, a service the library said required patience while staff worked on finding a solution to continue offering it.
The program operates through a formal professional agreement with other libraries in Florida, giving Hernando County cardholders access to titles and materials not available within the local collection. The network is limited to Florida libraries; the system does not seek items from out-of-state.
Several specific guidelines govern ILL requests. Requests may not exceed four items per month per patron. Materials published within the prior 12 months are not eligible. DVDs and VHS tapes cannot be requested through the program. The wait time for any inter-library loan request can run up to four weeks before the item is received or denied. Books and audiobooks carry a loan period of 28 days, and inter-library loan materials cannot be renewed.
Requests can be placed at any of the system's four branches. The Main Library sits at 238 Howell Avenue in Brooksville; the Spring Hill Branch is at 9220 Spring Hill Drive; the East Hernando Branch is at 6457 Windmere Road; and the West Hernando Branch is at 6335 Blackbird Avenue. Patrons looking to start a request online can visit hernandocountylibrary.us and review the ILL Guidelines on the Interlibrary Loan page before submitting.
The library's collection is fully funded under the provisions of the State Aid to Libraries Grant program, administered by the Florida Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.
