Thunderstorms Down Trees, Damage Brooksville Homes; Family Displaced, No Injuries
A tree crashed through a Brooksville home on Lancewood Drive Sunday, displacing a family and sending Fire Rescue crews scrambling across Hernando County.

A tree crashed through a home on Lancewood Drive at Sherman Hills Boulevard in Brooksville on Sunday afternoon, leaving a family displaced and triggering a wave of emergency calls across Hernando County as wind-driven thunderstorms tore through the area on March 15.
No one was injured in the Lancewood Drive incident, but the damage was severe enough to force the family from their home. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office documented the destruction with photos shared publicly, including one image showing a massive fallen tree branch blocking an entire lane of a Brooksville-area road.
Hernando County Fire Rescue crews responded to numerous calls after the storms snapped limbs and uprooted trees throughout the Brooksville area. The afternoon system was wind-driven, cutting across multiple neighborhoods and leaving a trail of structural and road damage in its wake.
The storm's reach extended beyond downed trees and damaged rooftops. Gusty winds and heavy rain created hazardous conditions at ground level as well: scattered debris led to at least one vehicle driving into an uncovered drain at a vacant Brooksville business, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The broader Tampa Bay region absorbed significant punishment from the storm system. Hillsborough County also reported downed trees and serious flooding, and a lightning strike triggered a house fire in Pasco County.
Power outages were reported in connection with the storms, though specific details on the number of customers affected, utility providers, or restoration timelines were not immediately available. Residents experiencing outages or damage can contact Hernando County Fire Rescue or the Hernando County Sheriff's Office for assistance and damage reporting.
