Lordsburg council to weigh budget approval and senior center update

Lordsburg council members will take up a final budget, a Local Road Fund Agreement and an update on the Ena Mitchell Senior Center when they meet at City Hall, 409 W. Wabash Street. The agenda puts three practical questions in front of residents: how the city will spend, what road work it can support and how well the senior center is operating.

John Prejean is scheduled to brief the council on the Ena Mitchell Senior Center, a city facility that the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department describes as a community place for older adults, typically 60 and above, with meal programs and social services among the services commonly offered. The city posted hiring notices for positions at the senior center on April 8, a sign that staffing has been an active issue in recent months. Any staffing changes or operating adjustments there could show up quickly in meal service, daily programming and the center’s ability to stay open and responsive to older residents.

The budget items are the other major decision point. Council members will consider approval of the final budget, and Resolution 2026-10 would formally adopt the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 final budget. Resolution 2026-09 covers the final quarter financial report for the year ending June 30, 2026, while Resolution 2026-11 would handle BARS, the budget adjustment requests cities use to revise accounts during the year. Together, those actions set the city’s financial footing for the new fiscal year and shape how much room Lordsburg has for payroll, utilities, maintenance and other day-to-day services.

Roads are also on the table. Resolution 2026-08 would approve a Local Road Fund Agreement, the kind of step that can affect street maintenance and project support in neighborhoods where even small repairs matter. The agenda shows the council is not separating road work from finance work. It is lining up both at once, which means any repair schedule or maintenance push will depend on how the budget vote and road-fund item are handled.

The senior center update also carries some history. In July 2025, the council was already discussing the Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging and the city’s assumption of operations for the senior center, while also taking up budget adjustments and transportation-related business. The next regular meeting is set for August 19, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., giving residents another checkpoint to see whether July’s decisions lead to visible work on city streets and at the Ena Mitchell Senior Center.
