Lordsburg to host district Little League games in June

Lordsburg is set to become the hub of the regional Little League calendar when district softball brackets arrive June 19-21, followed by the boys brackets June 26-28. The schedule gives Hidalgo County a stake in a postseason stretch that reaches beyond scores, because Deming Little League has already selected eight all-star teams across four age divisions, Minors, Majors, Juniors and Seniors.

For players and families, the brackets are the next step in a month built around roster spots, age-group competition and the chase for district pennants. Little League’s 2026 tournament calendar says district-round timing is set by the host, and it places Central-region softball district play between June 10 and June 24, which puts Lordsburg squarely in the middle of the tournament window.

That matters in practical ways for a town like Lordsburg. Weekend games bring visiting families, coaches and umpires, along with the fuel and food traffic that often follows youth sports travel in smaller communities. When a district site lands in Lordsburg, the local fields become the stage, but restaurants, gas stations and volunteers become part of the event too.

The larger Little League system gives that local moment some context. Little League Baseball and Softball was founded in 1939 and now counts millions of players and more than one million adult volunteers. In New Mexico, the game has deep roots, with the first Little League charters in Clovis and Portales in 1950, the state’s first tournament held in 1957 and the current structure organized into six districts.
