Girl Scouts of Ohio's Heartland Troop 777 completed its annual Blessing Baskets project on November 27, 2025, bringing together 28 girls and their adult advisers to collect, assemble and deliver food and household items to families in Holmes County. The work took place at Killbuck Valley Community Church, a new location chosen to accommodate the troop after significant growth.

The baskets were assembled with donations and purchases that included all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal as well as fruits, vegetables, dairy items and basic household necessities. The effort resulted in deliveries that benefited 10 local families this Thanksgiving season. Troop leadership said the project grew from a desire to give back and has become a favored annual activity for the girls.

Troop leader April Parks emphasized the long running nature of the project and the role community support plays in making it possible. “For 11 years we have been giving back to our community through the Thanksgiving season with our Blessing Baskets,” Parks said. “This project has become very special to our troop, and we have been incredibly blessed by so many who help support our desire to help others. We’d like to thank those who gave monetary donations, discounts and food.”

The troop acknowledged a range of community partners and donors who contributed to this year’s effort. Contributions came from troop members, Millersburg Eagles, Melway Paving, Harvey's Market, Millersburg Brewery and members of New Pointe Millersburg’s small group among others. “It is through the generosity of others who help us that we are able to bless so many families,” Parks said. “I’d like to say a special thanks to my leadership team and our girls for all their help from sorting, packing and delivering the baskets. We were able to help 10 families have a happy Thanksgiving. It warms my heart to be a small part in such a selfless giving project.”

The troop now includes girls from kindergarten through high school, and leaders said the expansion has allowed more participants to learn the civic lesson of service. For Holmes County residents the project demonstrates how local organizations and businesses can collaborate to meet short term needs while also fostering a culture of volunteerism and community responsibility among young people. As the troop continues to grow, the model of partnership between youth groups, faith based venues and local businesses offers a replicable approach for seasonal assistance and civic engagement across the county.
