Holmes County District Public Library Unveils Full Slate of March Programs
The Wizard of Oz screens at Holmes County Library on March 31 with a photo booth and refreshments, capping a month that includes a creative writing contest open through April 27.

Holmes County Central Library in Millersburg is closing out March with a double-feature afternoon on the 31st: a screening of The Wizard of Oz, part of the statewide Ohio Goes to the Movies series marking America's 250th anniversary, followed by two adult book club sessions the same evening. The month's programming spans all three library locations and runs the full age spectrum from toddlers to adults.
The creative writing contest, which opened March 2 and runs through April 27, invites children, teens and adults to submit original short stories or poetry. Entry forms and contest rules are available at the Holmes County Central Library in Millersburg and the East Branch Library in Walnut Creek. Prizes go to the top entry in each age group. Call 330-674-5972 or stop by either branch for forms.
Storytime sessions are running at all three locations throughout the month, each at 10:30 a.m., for children ages 2 to 5 accompanied by an adult. Killbuck Library hosts on Tuesdays, with remaining sessions on March 24 and 31. The East Branch Library in Walnut Creek holds its final session Wednesday, March 25; the East Branch can also be reached directly at 330-893-3464. The Holmes County Central Library hosts Fridays, with sessions on March 27 remaining. Each session features stories, songs, rhymes and more.
Little Learners Playgroup follows Storytime at the Central Library on Fridays at 11 a.m., including March 27, open to children up to age 5 with an adult. Hands-on activities support reading and social skills, and snacks are provided.
On Saturday, March 14, the Central Library's children's department hosted Paws to Read from 11 a.m. to noon, where children read aloud to therapy dogs provided by Caring Therapy Canines.
Thursday, March 26 at 3 p.m. brings Doodle in 3D to the Central Library for tweens and teens age 8 and older. Participants use 3D pens and templates to build three-dimensional projects. Registration is required; call 330-674-5972 to secure a spot.
March 31 is the month's most packed day. The Wizard of Oz screening begins with activities at noon and the film at 1 p.m. at Holmes County Library, with a full-service photo booth and refreshments on hand. The screening is part of Ohio Goes to the Movies, described as "a celebration of America's 250th anniversary with an all-Ohio movie series throughout 2026." That evening, the adult book club meets twice at the Central Library: the 1 p.m. session takes on "Mrs. Christie at the Mystery Guild Library" by Amanda Chapman, and the 6 p.m. session discusses "Flight of Dreams" by Ariel Lawhon. Both titles are available for pickup at the Central Library help desk, and new members are welcome at either session.
