SNAAP Iron County members celebrate prom at Sagola Township Hall
SNAAP members danced at Sagola Township Hall as the Windsor Center’s Community Closet supplied formalwear for a night built on inclusion.

At Sagola Township Hall on April 23, SNAAP members from Iron County marked prom night with formalwear from the Windsor Center Community Closet, turning a dance into a visible sign of support for adults with disabilities in the county.
The event brought together adults served by Special Needs Are Awesome People, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that meets in room 303 at the Windsor Center in Iron River. SNAAP works with adults 18 and older who have physical and or mental needs, and its activities focus on socialization and integration into the local community through trips, card nights, outdoor fun, cooking with Lynn and Creative wellness with life coach Sandra.
For the prom, the Community Closet supplied prom dresses for the women and dress clothes for the male members. The free, volunteer-run clothing resource on the third floor of the Windsor Center provides new and gently used clothing to families in need, and its role in the prom showed how practical help can shape an occasion just as much as decorations or music.

Pictured at the event were Tom Westphal, Destiny Foskuhl, Brian Foskuhl, Genevieve Hornby, Larry Menghini and Brian Lewis. Their night at Sagola Township Hall offered more than a photo opportunity. It reflected the work of families, volunteers and local organizations that make room for adults with disabilities to participate in community life with dignity and style.
That support network has also reached beyond prom. In 2025, the Iron Area Health Foundation awarded SNAAP a $1,000 grant to help transport 20 members to a Green Bay Packers Training Camp practice, a reminder that even a small nonprofit depends on outside help to widen access to shared experiences.

The Windsor Center has become a familiar gathering place for that kind of connection. Its Spring Craft and Vendor Show on Saturday, April 12, 2025, included an open Community Closet on the third floor, and West Iron County Junior Prom 2025 was also held there on April 26, 2025. For SNAAP members, the Sagola Township Hall celebration fit the same pattern: local spaces and local helpers making sure the county’s adults with special needs are seen, included and able to celebrate. SNAAP’s motto said it plainly: “Because, I Can.”
