West Iron County boys golf team photo names spring roster
West Iron County's boys golf photo named nine golfers and coach Mike Dallavalle, showing a core return from 2025 while adding Gatlin Gillaspie, Dominic Mottes and Alex Ghiggia.

A spring team photo gave West Iron County boys golf a clear public identity: nine names, coach Mike Dallavalle included, and a roster that mixed familiar faces with new ones as the season moved deeper into competition.
The photo, posted April 29 at 12:22 p.m., showed Jared Pietila, Mason Ahola, Dirks Hill and Dominic Mottes in the front row. Behind them were Ryan Dallavalle, Gatlin Gillaspie, Mike Dallavalle, Colin Fritz and Alex Ghiggia. For a small-school program in Iron County, that kind of roster shot does more than fill a page. It tells families in Iron River who is carrying the banner for West Iron County as the spring golf schedule takes shape.
The lineup also showed continuity from last year. West Iron County’s 2025 spring sports photo for boys golf included Pietila, Ahola, Nathan Camps, Ryan Dallavalle, Hill, Fritz and Mike Dallavalle. This year’s photo kept a strong core intact with Pietila, Ahola, Dallavalle, Hill and Fritz still in view, while adding Gillaspie, Mottes and Ghiggia to the pictured group. Camps was not part of the 2026 image, a sign that the roster had shifted even as the team kept experience in place.

Mike Dallavalle continues to lead the program as head coach. West Iron County Public Schools lists him as the golf coach at 601 Nick Baumgartner Way in Iron River, where Brady Gustafson is listed as the girls golf coach. The separate boys and girls listings show that golf remains a structured part of the district’s spring athletics, not just a one-off photo opportunity.
The timing matters too. The Michigan High School Athletic Association says boys golf practice began March 9 and the first competition was March 16, placing the April 29 roster photo squarely in the middle of the season. Regionals are set for May 26-30, with finals June 5-6 for Lower Peninsula teams, so West Iron County was already working toward the stretch that decides who advances. With six golfers pictured around Dallavalle, the Wykons had a visible core to build around as the postseason approached.
