Blue Fox Drive In Christmas Village Returns, Brings Family Fun
The Blue Fox Drive In opened a new Christmas Village over the Thanksgiving weekend, offering family focused activities that blend outdoor entertainment with community fundraising. The event runs on additional weekends in December, providing Oak Harbor residents affordable seasonal recreation while supporting future local gatherings.

The Blue Fox Drive In on North Monroe Landing Road in Oak Harbor opened its Christmas Village during the Nov. 28 through 30 weekend, and the attraction continues on additional weekends in December through Dec. 22. Operating each evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the site combines classic drive in space with walk through and ride based activities designed for families and children.
Visitors experienced hayrides through twinkling lights, a barrel train ride, a Christmas light maze, and a petting area with barnyard animals during the opening weekend. The site also features arcade games, snacks, and opportunities for visits with Santa. Tickets are modestly priced and proceeds are earmarked to support future events, creating a revenue stream that goes back into community programming. Sponsors include local businesses and community organizations, reflecting a partnership between the drive in and Island County stakeholders.
For Oak Harbor and the surrounding islands, the event serves several local needs. It offers low cost family entertainment in a season when disposable spending typically rises, and it creates visibility and foot traffic for the sponsoring businesses. Community sponsorship reduces the financial burden on the host venue while distributing benefits to local partners. Organizers are leveraging the Blue Fox Drive In layout to accommodate a mix of parked drive in viewing and pedestrian areas, which helps manage crowd flow and makes use of existing parking capacity.

From an economic point of view, small seasonal events such as this can function as micro economic multipliers. Modest ticket receipts and concession sales keep money circulating locally, and sponsorship dollars provide marketing value for small firms. Reinvesting proceeds into future events also supports a sustainable local events calendar that can attract repeat visitation across years.
Residents planning to attend should note the three hour evening window and the remaining weekend dates through Dec. 22. The format emphasizes family friendly activities and community support rather than large scale commercial spectacle, making it a practical option for local families seeking affordable holiday outings.
