Brackenwood Gallery expanded its Small Pleasures Show in December with Langley Inside and Out, a month long exhibit of oil paintings by local artist Phyllis Ray that explores scenes of Langley and island life. An artist reception was held on December 16, 2025 at 302 First Street in Langley, offering residents and seasonal visitors an opportunity to view and purchase regional fine art during the holiday period.

Brackenwood Gallery’s December exhibition Langley Inside and Out placed canvases of familiar streets and shoreline at the center of Langley’s holiday cultural calendar. The show, part of the gallery’s ongoing Small Pleasures series, features oil paintings by Phyllis Ray and runs through the end of December at the gallery space at 302 First Street in Langley. An artist reception took place on December 16, 2025, drawing residents and visitors to view the new work.
The exhibit catalogs everyday and intimate views of Langley, from interior scenes to exterior streetscapes, providing a visual record of island life that complements the gallery’s broader selection of fine art. For local artists and collectors, this kind of themed show offers exposure for creators and fresh inventory for patrons during a period when foot traffic increases as people shop and gather for the holidays. Small galleries such as Brackenwood act as cultural anchors in island communities, translating local character into economic activity through sales and visitation.
Community impact extends beyond transactions. Exhibits that foreground local subjects help foster shared identity and preserve visual memories of a changing town. For residents, seeing familiar storefronts, homes and coastal views rendered in oil can spur conversations about preservation, neighborhood change, and what scenes matter most to the community. For seasonal visitors, the show provides context and a tangible connection to the island through artworks that can be taken home.

From a market perspective, December exhibitions are strategically timed to coincide with increased local outings and gift purchases, which can bolster revenue for galleries and supplement artists’ incomes. The Brackenwood exhibit continues the gallery’s role in supporting regional artists and inviting the public to engage directly with work that reflects the island environment. Langley residents and visitors can view Langley Inside and Out at Brackenwood Gallery through the end of December at 302 First Street, Langley.
