Alice High senior Aubrey Garcia sets 3,200-meter record, advances to Area Meet

Aubrey Garcia gave Alice High a rare spring highlight, breaking the school record in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:59.57 and becoming the first female runner in program history to finish the race in under 11 minutes.

The senior distance standout’s mark was strong enough to send her on to the Area Meet, set for Thursday, April 16, in Rio Grande City. That combination of a record and postseason advancement made Garcia’s run one of the most meaningful performances of the track season for Alice High.

For a school and community that closely follows its athletes, the result carried more weight than a single fast time. Garcia’s effort reset the standard for Alice girls distance running and added a new benchmark to the program’s record book, the kind of achievement that coaches point to when a team is trying to build momentum in the final stretch of the season.
