Alice High Unified Track Team Advances to Regionals After Brownsville Meet

Alice High School's Unified Track team punched their ticket to UIL regional competition after delivering qualifying performances at a Brownsville meet, giving the Coyotes program another shot at postseason track glory and spotlighting one of Jim Wells County's most inclusive athletic efforts.

Unified Track pairs general education students with classmates who have intellectual disabilities on the same competitive team, a model sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League that gives both groups a legitimate shot at the UIL postseason ladder. At Alice High, that ladder now extends to the regional stage: multiple athletes posted qualifying marks in Brownsville, and relay units placed well enough to carry the team forward. The depth of the squad gave Alice enough firepower across events to earn regional consideration as a program rather than relying on a single standout performer.

The achievement carries added weight given what this program has already shown it can do. Superintendent Dr. Anysia Trevino introduced Unified Sports to Alice ISD with an explicit goal of expanding competitive opportunity for all students, and last year the program advanced to state. Regional qualification in 2026 keeps the Coyotes on a similar trajectory.

For families with athletes in the program, the regional milestone represents the payoff of months of training alongside teammates who would not otherwise have had a UIL postseason path.
