Faith-centered Promise Grounds cafe opens in Alice, welcomes all customers
Bible studies are already meeting over coffee and sweets at Promise Grounds, a new Alice cafe trying to become a faith-filled gathering place open to everyone.

Bible studies, coffee and sweets are now sharing the same tables at Promise Grounds Christian Cafe, a new Alice business trying to become more than a place to buy a drink. The cafe opened its doors April 30 and is aiming to serve as a faith-centered gathering spot in Jim Wells County, while still welcoming customers who do not share its Christian roots.
Co-owner Destiny Garcia said the idea grew out of a difficult stretch in her own life after the loss of her grandfather. She said the concept came while she was “at a really low point” and in “a really bad space” mentally, and that a family friend helped her move forward. Garcia, who is also an Army reservist, has framed the cafe as a place shaped by service, resilience and a personal sense of purpose.

That personal story is part of what gives Promise Grounds its distinct role in Alice. Garcia says the space is rooted in Christianity but open to everyone, believers and non-believers alike. Customers are already using the cafe for Bible studies as well as for coffee and sweets, turning it into something that looks less like a simple retail stop and more like a small-town meeting place where people can linger, talk and spend time together.
For Alice, a city anchored by schools, churches and close-knit daily routines, that kind of business can matter beyond the menu. Alice Independent School District has roughly 4,440 enrolled students, a built-in base of families, teenagers and staff who may be looking for a place to study, meet friends or gather after church or school activities. Promise Grounds appears to be aiming for that overlap, where faith and everyday social life meet under one roof.

Garcia said she hopes the cafe becomes a place for “connection, encouragement, and growth” one cup of coffee at a time. In a community where many businesses compete on convenience alone, Promise Grounds is trying to win a different kind of loyalty: a regular place where people feel known, supported and welcomed.
