Jim Wells County Commissioners Approve Road Funds, Property Purchase at Special Meeting
Roman Gonzalez's $6,500 bid for a 1-acre tax-delinquent tract and $30,000 in precinct transfers topped Jim Wells County's special meeting Friday.

Jim Wells County Commissioners Court accepted a $6,500 tax-sale bid on a 1.00-acre tract, approved $30,000 in precinct fund transfers, and extended a key emergency-services appointment at a special meeting that moved through property, road maintenance, and public-safety governance in a single Friday session.
Roman Gonzalez placed the $6,500 offer on the delinquent-tax parcel through the county's formal tax-sale process. Accepting the bid converts the backlogged property into a clear-title holding with a private owner paying back into the county tax rolls. County Judge Pedro "Pete" Trevino Jr. presided over the meeting, which opened at 9:00 a.m. in the County Court Room.
The $30,000 in transfers divided across two precincts. Precinct 4 Commissioner Wicho Gonzalez moved $10,000 into Road and Bridge improvements to cover contract labor and repairs on county routes within his district. Precinct 1 Commissioner George Aguilar shifted $20,000 from contingency to a land-purchase line item to acquire property adjacent to the precinct yard, with Roman Gonzales and Abraham Flores named in the agenda packet in connection with the acquisition. The expansion adds staging and maintenance capacity for precinct equipment.
Diana Hernandez received reappointment to the Jim Wells County Emergency Services District No. 1 board through December 31, 2027. ESD No. 1 oversees fire and emergency medical coverage in county areas outside Alice's city limits; keeping a seated member in place preserves continuity in district oversight, contract management, and response protocols.

The court rounded out the agenda with two April observances. Brush Country CASA submitted a proclamation designating April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and commissioners adopted a separate resolution recognizing April as Autism Awareness Month, aligning official county policy with campaigns already running through local nonprofits and school districts.
